Mentorship in Action — A Conversation with an Elevar Instructor
At Eagle Valley Community Foundation, our Elevar program thrives because of the passion and expertise of local mentors who give their time and knowledge to support entrepreneurs. We sat down with one of our instructors, Lisa Berg, who recently led a marketing class, to learn what inspired their involvement and what makes Elevar so impactful.
What drew you to get involved with Elevar and teach the marketing class?
“After meeting with Sofia and seeing her eyes light up about the program—and after reading Elevar’s applications—I knew I could provide expertise to help those focused on enhancing our daily experiences here in the valley. After last night’s class, I left so proud of the work this program is tackling.”
What’s been the most rewarding part of working with Elevar?
“Spending time with each team member in the cohort. Their energy and passion around launching their businesses is invigorating. They truly want to figure it out!”
What do you think makes the Elevar program unique or impactful in our community?
“The sharing of talent and learning. All of us will be better.”
Is there a personal or professional philosophy that guides your approach to mentoring or marketing?
“I believe it goes back to my father, who was a farmer in central Illinois. His guiding philosophy was always, ‘Leave the land in better shape than you found it.’ This is my way of partnering with my neighbors to leave the valley in better shape. We all play a small part in this philosophy.”
Through mentors like Lisa, Elevar is not just about launching businesses—it’s about building community, strengthening connections, and creating a ripple effect of opportunity across Eagle County.
