Hunger Action Month — Nourishment Beyond the Table

When hunger is no longer a barrier, possibilities open.

At Eagle Valley Community Foundation, we know food is more than calories on a plate. It’s the foundation for health, learning, and opportunity. Hunger Action Month is a time to remember that when food insecurity is addressed, people can shift their focus from survival to growth.

Across the country, 13.5% of U.S. households—over 18 million households—experienced food insecurity in 2023. That’s more than 47 million people, including 13 million children. In Colorado, 1 in 8 residents and 1 in 7 children face hunger each year.

Here in Eagle County, The Community Market is meeting this challenge head-on—and the results speak for themselves:

  • 73%+ of customers report that the food they receive at The Community Market has improved their health.
  • The majority are employed or seniors on fixed incomes, showing that hunger affects working families and older adults alike.
  • More than 70%+ say The Community Market helps them save money for other essential expenses like housing, childcare, and healthcare.

Behind each statistic is a story. A child who arrives at school well-fed can focus on learning, building the skills that shape their future. A parent who doesn’t have to choose between groceries and rent can concentrate on work, building stability for their family. A senior who receives healthy meals can stay active, engaged, and connected in their community.

Through The Community Market, thousands of our neighbors each week find more than groceries—they find relief, dignity, and the chance to move forward without hunger holding them back. Your support makes this possible. Each bag of produce, each loaf of bread, each gallon of milk represents not just a meal, but the freedom for our community members to thrive.

This Hunger Action Month, we invite you to take action with us: spread awareness, volunteer your time, or make a gift. Together, we can ensure that when food needs are met, doors open to health, education, and opportunity for everyone in Eagle County.
