Bringing Health Closer to Home: MIRA’s First El Jebel Health & Wellness Fair
At Eagle Valley Community Foundation, we believe access to healthcare should be easy, trusted, and rooted in community. That belief came to life in a powerful way at MIRA’s first-ever El Jebel Health & Wellness Fair—a milestone event that brought together partners, providers, and neighbors in one of the most vibrant, yet often under-recognized, communities in Eagle County.
Why El Jebel Matters
Located in the mid-valley between Basalt and Carbondale, El Jebel is home to many of the working families who power our region—from hospitality and construction to childcare and service industries. It is one of the most diverse and rapidly growing areas in Eagle County, with a strong Hispanic and Latino presence and a deep sense of community connection.
Yet despite its importance, El Jebel is often overlooked when it comes to access to services. Transportation barriers, language access, cost of care, and limited nearby resources can make it difficult for families to prioritize their health—especially while balancing multiple jobs and responsibilities.
That’s why El Jebel has become one of MIRA’s busiest and most trusted outreach locations.
Every week, families show up not just for services, but for connection, guidance, and support. MIRA is often a first step—a place where questions are welcomed, trust is built, and pathways to care begin.
A Community Effort, Powered by Partnership
To meet that need in a bigger way, we hosted our first Health & Wellness Fair in El Jebel—bringing together more than 20 community partners to create a one-stop, welcoming space for care.
We were proud to co-host this inaugural event alongside:
- English in Action
- La Clínica del Pueblo
- Mountain Family Health Centers
- MidValley Family Practice
- Basalt High School
Together, we created a culturally responsive environment where families could access services in their language, ask questions freely, and connect directly with providers they know and trust.
Delivering Care with Dignity
Throughout the event, more than 60 health screenings were provided by MidValley Family Practice—offering critical opportunities for early detection, prevention, and peace of mind.
But beyond the numbers, what made the day truly meaningful were the moments of connection.
A mother asking questions for the first time.
A neighbor learning about resources they didn’t know existed.
A family leaving with answers—and a next step.
As one community member shared:
“It’s easier to come here. I can ask questions and get help.”
That sense of ease and trust is exactly what MIRA is designed to create—meeting people where they are and walking alongside them every step of the way.
More Than a Health Fair
This event reflected MIRA’s holistic approach to wellness—recognizing that health is not just physical, but deeply connected to mental, financial, and social well-being.
By bringing services directly into the community, we are removing barriers and replacing them with relationships. We are creating spaces where people feel seen, respected, and supported.
Looking Ahead
Hosting our first Health & Wellness Fair in El Jebel is just the beginning.
We are committed to continuing to invest in this community—expanding services, deepening partnerships, and listening closely to the voices of those we serve.
Because when care is accessible, culturally responsive, and rooted in trust, it doesn’t just improve individual health—it strengthens the entire community.
