What We’ve Got Wednesdays: Turning Access into Healthy Meals
What sets The Community Market (TCM) apart from a traditional “food pantry” is its commitment to providing a dignified, customer-centric experience that encourages healthy choices and emphasizes nutrition. In addition to increasing access to food, TCM prioritizes fresh, healthy options – local produce, quality meats, and dairy – paired with nutrition education and hands-on cooking inspiration that empowers individuals and families to make the most of what’s available to them.
To bring these elements together, we launched What We’ve Got Wednesdays, a weekly initiative designed to spotlight the fresh ingredients available at TCM each week – such as poblanos, Palisade peaches, ground turkey, plums, or green onions – while also sharing practical ways to turn those ingredients into healthy, flavorful meals. From turkey chili to Cuban-style stuffed peppers, the program offers recipe ideas that reflect what families are actually receiving, helping remove uncertainty and provide meal inspiration for the week.
What We’ve Got Wednesdays not only helps customers know what to expect during their visit to TCM, but also reinforces the idea that nourishing, home-cooked meals can be created from simple, seasonal ingredients. By pairing access with education, the program supports healthier outcomes and strengthens food security for families across our community.
A heartfelt thank you to Alpine Bank and First Bank for their generous support of this initiative. Your partnership has been integral to making programs like What We’ve Got Wednesdays possible, contributing to our mission of creating a healthier, more resilient community.
