We believe the well-being of one is linked to the well-being of all.
The Community Market
The Community Market helps makes sure that sure that no family in our community has to choose between paying bills or putting food on the table.
Here in Eagle County, more than 8,700 residents deal with food insecurity. The Community Market (TCM) provides access to free, nutrient-rich food throughout the County with markets featuring a variety of fresh produce, meat, dairy and bread as well as shelf-stable grocery items, all available for each customer’s own choosing.
The Community Market also works to prevent food from going to waste.
The Community Market does grocery rescue and food distribution to the Mobile Intercultural Resource Alliance (MIRA), Colorado Mountain College, Family Learning Center, Edwards Early Center, and neighborhoods throughout the community.

“People feel comfortable coming to The Community Market. No barriers, no presumptions. Shop for what your family needs. Here, nobody is ashamed. It’s a real market and there is dignity in shopping here.”— Beth Simon, volunteer and donor
“Fresh food is not a privilege, it’s a right. The Community Market purchases and finds resources to get healthy food, and also rescues food. We are helping our community in providing that quality food and decreasing the amount of impact we are putting on our earth by finding alternative ways to recycle food, not just recycling it into the compost bins but to helping our community to get free, nutritious groceries.” – Erin Baumann, 2022 Volunteer of the Year
“Eagle Valley Community Foundation offers a wonderful umbrella of opportunity through each one of its programs. The Community Market and MIRA with their focus on nutrition, health and wellness, help to equalize the community. I saw a need; the real need in this community, and I wanted to be part of the solution.” — Margo Andrews, The Community Market 2021 Volunteer of the Year
Three pillars guide our work at The Community Market:
Healthy People
We are committed to providing a dignified experience for families. We promote a healthy diet and help to improve the overall health of community residents as we work to eliminate any stigma around food access and food security.
Strong Community
By reaching out to local community leaders, businesses, civic groups and stakeholders, we are able to be responsive to community needs as they emerge. This outreach allows us to focus on distributing to other community partners and delivering food directly to neighborhoods.
Environmental Sustainability
We help to reduce our community carbon footprint and support environmental sustainability by reducing food waste and recovering excess fresh food from local grocers and farmers. First, we feed people, next we feed animals as farmers pick up food scraps at The Community Markets, and finally, we compost, converting food waste into nutrient rich soil.
59%
of food distributed is
fresh produce.
In one year alone, through our food rescue partners, we rescued nearly 600,000 pounds of food from grocers, 32,053 pounds from farmers, and 10,000 pounds from local restaurants.
We are committed to nourishing the lives of those in need throughout Eagle County. Along with neighborhood community centers and mobile home parks throughout the county, local & regional farmers and growers, and several grocers, restaurants, and community non-profit groups, these community partnerships make that possible.
