The Community Market Earns Silver-Level Colorado Green Business Certification
Eagle Valley Community Foundation is proud to announce that The Community Market has been certified as a Silver-Level Member of the Colorado Green Business Network through the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
This statewide certification recognizes organizations that integrate sustainability into multiple areas of their policies and operations. The Community Market received this recognition for its work to reduce resource use, prevent food waste, and implement responsible environmental practices while expanding access to fresh, nutritious food throughout Eagle County.
Feeding People, Not Landfills
Environmental sustainability has always been central to The Community Market’s work. Through partnerships with local grocery stores, restaurants, farms, and other food providers, our team recovers high-quality food that might otherwise go to waste and makes it available to local families.
This approach supports both people and the planet. Food that is still safe and nutritious is offered first to our neighbors. Food that cannot be distributed is redirected whenever possible to local farmers for animal feed or composted to create nutrient-rich soil. These efforts help reduce waste while making the best possible use of the resources already available in our community.
The Community Market also continues to strengthen sustainable practices across its Edwards and Gypsum storefronts, Mobile Markets, warehouse operations, and community programs. From thoughtful food sourcing and recycling to partnerships that support a more circular local food system, each improvement contributes to a healthier and more resilient Eagle County.
A Community-Wide Accomplishment
This recognition would not be possible without the dedication of The Community Market’s staff, volunteers, donors, food partners, farmers, grocers, and community supporters. Every rescued item, packed box, stocked shelf, and volunteer shift is part of a much larger effort to nourish our neighbors while caring for the place we all call home.
We are especially grateful to Yulisa for her leadership in guiding The Community Market through the certification process and helping advance our sustainability practices.
Earning Silver-Level certification is an exciting milestone, but it is not the end of this work. As a member of the Colorado Green Business Network, The Community Market will continue learning, improving, and identifying new ways to reduce its environmental footprint.
We are honored to receive this recognition and proud to be part of a statewide network committed to greening Colorado while strengthening local communities.
