Supporting Healthy Beginnings for Families in Eagle County

The MIRA Perinatal Program continues to grow as a trusted, culturally responsive resource for pregnant and postpartum families across Eagle County. Led by Monica Martinez, whose lived experience and deep community relationships shape every aspect of the program, MIRA provides compassionate, individualized support during one of life’s most vulnerable and transformative seasons. This critical work is generously supported by the Colorado Perinatal Quality Care Collaborative (CPQCC), strengthening our ability to advance maternal health equity locally.

At the heart of the program is one-on-one resource navigation. Families receive personalized guidance connecting to prenatal and postpartum medical care, health insurance enrollment, behavioral health services, parenting supports, and essential basic needs. For many Spanish-speaking families who may not access traditional hospital systems, having a trusted navigator meet them in neighborhoods — through the MIRA bus and community settings — makes all the difference.

As Monica shares:
“When families feel heard and supported, they are more likely to seek care, ask questions, and advocate for themselves. My goal is to make sure every mother knows she is not alone.”

Beyond individual support, Monica represents MIRA in the local perinatal support collaborative, ensuring that the voices of immigrant and underserved families are reflected in regional planning and service coordination. This partnership-driven approach strengthens the safety net for families across systems.

The program also extends its reach through outreach events and tangible resource distribution. During Día de los Niños celebrations and regular community events, families connect with early childhood and health resources in culturally affirming spaces. Through our partnership with WeeCycle and distribution at The Community Market, families receive diapers and wipes — one of the most requested supports. Access to these essentials reduces financial strain, promotes infant health, and allows parents to focus on bonding and recovery.

Together, these efforts are helping build a stronger, more connected perinatal support system — one that centers dignity, accessibility, and culturally responsive care so that every family can begin their parenting journey with confidence and support.
