The Community Market

We believe the well-being of one is linked to the well-being of all.

The Community Market

The Community Market helps makes sure that sure that no family in our community has to choose between paying bills or putting food on the table.

The Community Market (TCM) is tackling food insecurity across the Eagle River Valley through two storefront markets in Gypsum and Edwards, pop-up Mobile Markets, and comprehensive outreach programs. By offering a wide selection of fresh produce, dairy, meats, bread, and shelf-stable items, TCM enables over 6,000 individuals each week to access healthy food on a regular basis.

Beyond providing food, TCM is deeply committed to promoting the overall health and well-being of the community through a variety of educational initiatives. These include cooking and nutrition classes that equip individuals with the skills to prepare wholesome meals, and budgeting workshops that help families make the most of their food resources. Our efforts also extend to school lunch debt forgiveness, ensuring that every child has access to nutritious meals without financial barriers. Additionally, TCM offers targeted outreach programs for both youth and seniors, focusing on nutrition education, community engagement, and fostering connections that enhance quality of life.

Through a blend of our storefront markets, mobile markets, and educational outreach, TCM continues to provide critical food access and resources to underserved communities, ensuring healthy, sustainable solutions for all.

  • “People feel comfortable coming to The Community Market. No barriers, no presumptions. Shop for what your family needs. Here, nobody is ashamed. It’s a real market and there is dignity in shopping here.”— Beth Simon, volunteer and donor

  • “Fresh food is not a privilege, it’s a right. The Community Market purchases and finds resources to get healthy food, and also rescues food. We are helping our community in providing that quality food and decreasing the amount of impact we are putting on our earth by finding alternative ways to recycle food, not just recycling it into the compost bins but to helping our community to get free, nutritious groceries.” – Erin Baumann, 2022 Volunteer of the Year

  • “Eagle Valley Community Foundation offers a wonderful umbrella of opportunity through each one of its programs. The Community Market and MIRA with their focus on nutrition, health and wellness, help to equalize the community. I saw a need; the real need in this community, and I wanted to be part of the solution.” — Margo Andrews, The Community Market 2021 Volunteer of the Year

Three pillars guide our work at The Community Market:

Healthy
People

We are committed to providing a dignified experience for families. We promote a healthy diet and help to improve the overall health of community residents as we work to eliminate any stigma around food access and food security.

Strong
Community

By reaching out to local community leaders, businesses, civic groups and stakeholders, we are able to be responsive to community needs as they emerge. This outreach allows us to focus on distributing to other community partners and delivering food directly to neighborhoods.

Environmental
Sustainability

We help to reduce our community carbon footprint and support environmental sustainability by reducing food waste and recovering excess fresh food from local grocers and farmers. First, we feed people, next we feed animals as farmers pick up food scraps at The Community Markets, and finally, we compost, converting food waste into nutrient rich soil.

Our Partners

We are committed to nourishing the lives of those in need throughout Eagle County. Along with neighborhood community centers and mobile home parks throughout the county, local & regional farmers and growers, and several grocers, restaurants, and community non-profit groups, these community partnerships make that possible.

✨ Elevar is growing—and there are two ways to get involved!

We’re recruiting for both the Elevar Steering Committee and the Elevar Community Group. They offer different ways to support entrepreneurs and emerging leaders in Eagle County:
🔹 Steering Committee: Help shape Elevar’s direction, including its strategy, curriculum, mentorship, and outreach. Members take on a more active role in guiding the program and supporting committee projects.
🔹 Community Group: Connect with the Elevar community, share ideas, and help strengthen relationships and opportunities for local entrepreneurs. It’s a way to stay involved and contribute without serving on the committee.

Whether you’re ready to help guide the program or want to connect and participate in the community, there’s a place for you. Visit our website or send us a message to learn more!
