MIRA Esperanza: Expanding Access to Mental Health Care in Eagle County

When asked what they hope to gain from therapy, participants in MIRA Esperanza consistently share simple but powerful goals:

  • To feel calmer.
  • To be heard.
  • To find peace of mind.
  • To manage stress and emotions.
  • To regain stability, balance, and confidence.

These are not extraordinary requests. They are fundamental human needs. And yet for many Spanish-speaking families in Eagle County, access to culturally responsive mental health care has long felt out of reach.

A Trusted, Community-Based Model

MIRA Esperanza is a community-based behavioral health program providing free, Spanish-language therapy to individuals and families who otherwise would not have access to care. Delivered through the trusted presence of the MIRA bus and virtual appointments, the program removes the most common barriers to mental health support:

  • Cost
  • Language
  • Stigma
  • Transportation and access

Rather than asking families to navigate unfamiliar systems, Esperanza meets them where they already feel safe — in their neighborhoods, in their language, and within a model built on trust.

110 People Served — And Growing

Since launching, more than 110 individuals have accessed free, Spanish-language mental health care through MIRA Esperanza.

For most participants, Esperanza represents their first opportunity to receive therapy. Many seek support for anxiety, depression, stress management, or trauma — challenges that affect not only individuals, but entire families. When a parent finds tools to manage stress, when a young adult learns coping strategies, when someone processes trauma for the first time, the ripple effects strengthen entire households.

Building Toward a Healthier Community

The need for accessible, culturally responsive behavioral health services in our valley remains significant. In its early years, one of our greatest challenges has been expanding the number of providers available to meet demand. With continued partnership and investment, MIRA Esperanza is working to grow capacity so that no one seeking care is turned away.

Thanks to the support of The Colorado Trust and our community partners, Esperanza is building a future where mental health care is not a privilege, but a right — accessible, dignified, and rooted in belonging.

Because everyone deserves to feel calmer.
To be heard.
To find peace of mind.
