Heart Health Month: Saving Lives, Strengthening Community

At MIRA, heart health is about more than numbers on a chart — it’s about protecting our families, neighbors, and community. February is Heart Health Month, a time to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death in the United States. But awareness alone is not enough. Knowledge and action save lives.

That’s why MIRA was proud to partner with Starting Hearts to host a bilingual CPR class designed specifically for our community.

Breaking Down Barriers to Life-Saving Skills

For many Spanish-speaking families in Eagle County, access to health education in their primary language can be limited. Medical terminology can feel intimidating. Classes are often offered only in English.

By offering CPR training in both English and Spanish, we ensured that participants felt confident, comfortable, and empowered to ask questions and practice skills in their preferred language.

This is health equity in action.

Why CPR Training Matters

Every minute counts during cardiac arrest. Immediate CPR can double or even triple a person’s chance of survival. Yet many people hesitate to act because they are unsure of what to do.

During the workshop, participants learned:

  • How to recognize cardiac arrest
  • How to perform hands-only CPR
  • How to use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
  • How to respond confidently in an emergency

More importantly, they practiced — building muscle memory and courage.

Health Lives in the Neighborhood

MIRA’s model is simple: meet people where they are. By bringing bilingual health education directly into trusted community spaces, we remove barriers and build trust.

For many families, this was their first CPR training. Now, they are prepared to protect a loved one at home, at work, or in their neighborhood.

That ripple effect is powerful.

A Community That Cares

We are deeply grateful to Starting Hearts for partnering with us to make this training accessible and engaging. Together, we are building a community where language is not a barrier to lifesaving knowledge.

Heart health is prevention.
Heart health is education.
Heart health is empowerment.

And at MIRA, heart health is community.

If you are interested in future bilingual health workshops or CPR trainings, stay connected with us. Your heart — and your community — matter. ❤️
