Funder Spotlight: Kenneth King Foundation Invests in Local Entrepreneurs

Local entrepreneurs are one of Eagle County’s greatest strengths. They bring creativity, determination, cultural knowledge, and lived experience to the work of building a stronger local economy. Through Elevar, Eagle Valley Community Foundation is proud to support entrepreneurs who are not only growing businesses, but also creating opportunities, services, and community connection right here at home.

This work is made possible through the generosity of funders who believe in the power of community-led solutions. We are grateful to the Kenneth King Foundation for investing in Elevar and helping local entrepreneurs access the support they need to grow.

Elevar was created to support BIPOC and Latinx entrepreneurs through bilingual business education, mentorship, technical assistance, peer support, and startup funding. Participants build practical skills in areas like marketing, finance, operations, customer service, and business planning, while also gaining confidence and connections that help them move their ideas forward.

For many entrepreneurs, access to startup capital can be one of the biggest barriers to growth. Support from the Kenneth King Foundation helps reduce that barrier by making it possible for Elevar participants to receive direct financial support as they launch or expand their businesses. These investments help entrepreneurs purchase equipment, improve branding, strengthen operations, pursue continuing education, and take the next step toward long-term sustainability.

To date, Elevar has supported 16 community-led initiatives and provided more than $91,000 in financial support, along with $15,000 in continuing education stipends. Behind each number is a person with a vision. Elevar entrepreneurs include culinary creators, wellness providers, artists, service professionals, and community builders whose businesses reflect the talent and resilience already present in Eagle County.

The impact of this investment extends beyond each individual business. When local entrepreneurs succeed, they help strengthen families, create culturally relevant services, build neighborhood wealth, and contribute to a more inclusive local economy. Many Elevar participants are longtime community members who are reinvesting their skills, stories, and leadership into the place they call home.

Their support helps ensure that more community members have access to the tools, resources, and opportunities they need to turn their ideas into lasting impact.
