Coming Together for Community Health: The MIRA Health & Wellness Fair
This fall, the MIRA Health Fair is bringing vital, free services and screenings directly to the heart of Eagle County. Thanks to our partners—from Mountain Family Health Centers to Colorado Mountain College, Lions Club, CU Anschutz, and many others—neighbors can access care and resources that remove barriers to wellness, especially for uninsured, underinsured, and Spanish-speaking families.
Why It Matters
Health fairs like MIRA’s bridge critical gaps in access. In rural communities, one in five residents reports skipping care due to cost (Colorado Health Institute, 2023). Among Latino adults in Eagle County, nearly 40% lack a regular healthcare provider, compared to 22% of non-Latino peers. Early screening, preventive education, and trust-based outreach change those numbers—and lives.
Oral Health Screenings
Partner: Colorado Mountain College Dental Hygiene Program
Oral health is often an early indicator of other chronic conditions like diabetes and heart disease. According to the CDC, nearly half of U.S. adults aged 30 and older show signs of gum disease, yet many lack access to dental care. Free screenings at the fair will help detect issues early and connect residents to affordable local clinics for follow-up.
Fitness Consultations
Partner: Pricilla Solis, Nourish Mind & Body
Chronic pain affects daily quality of life and productivity. These 15-minute consultations focus on back, knee, and ankle pain—offering quick evaluations, linking discomfort to stress or habits, and providing a free month-long exercise plan through the PThub app. Movement is medicine, and these tailored consultations empower participants to take the first step toward pain-free living.
Nutrition & Ayurveda Consultations
Partner: Rocio Martínez, Gula Wellness
Nutrition is central to long-term health. Participants can choose from:
- Ayurveda for General Wellness
- Ayurveda for Digestion
- Spiritual Reflection Sessions
Each 20-minute session blends evidence-based nutrition and holistic wisdom, addressing both body and mind. Nutrition counseling has been shown to reduce chronic disease risk and improve health literacy—key goals for MIRA’s education-through-connection model.
Mental Health Therapies
Partner: Leticia Harrison, MIRA Esperanza
The mental health crisis continues to deepen—especially among Latino and immigrant populations, who face higher rates of anxiety and depression but lower access to care (Kaiser Family Foundation, 2024). Through Esperanza, attendees can learn about therapy resources, coping tools, and culturally informed care that break stigma and build resilience.
Vision Screenings
Partner: Lions Club
Vision screenings help detect early signs of eye disease and vision impairment that can affect school and work performance. The Lions Club’s volunteer team ensures families receive referrals for affordable glasses or further eye care when needed.
Immunizations for Children & Adults
Partner: Eagle County Public Health & Environment
Routine vaccines save lives. The CDC estimates that vaccines prevent 4 million deaths globally each year. Offering no-cost immunizations for both children and adults helps protect community health and reduce outbreaks of preventable diseases.
Health Screenings
Partner: Eagle County Paramedics & Mountain Family Health Centers
Screenings for blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, and BMI can detect early signs of chronic conditions such as diabetes and hypertension—two leading causes of preventable death in Colorado. Early detection means early intervention.
Cancer Prevention & Mammogram Referrals
Partner: CU Anschutz & Vail Valley Charitable Fund
Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in Colorado. Early detection through mammograms can reduce mortality by up to 30% (American Cancer Society). The MIRA and VVCF team will help connect women to free or low-cost mammogram appointments and provide at-home cancer prevention test kits.
Financial & Health Insurance Enrollments
Partner: MIRA Team & Benefit Recovery Fund
Whether it’s SNAP, Medicaid, or Marketplace plans, our enrollment specialists will help families understand and apply for the support they qualify for. Losing coverage can mean skipping care—especially as post-pandemic redeterminations continue. The average family in Eagle County lost $90 per person per month in SNAP benefits after emergency allotments ended, making these resources more essential than ever.
Immigration & Family Law Consultations
Partner: Mountain Dreamers and Legal Volunteers
Trusted legal support ensures families understand their rights and pathways to stability. Free consultations with immigration and family law attorneys can help attendees navigate complex systems that impact every other area of health and well-being.
Why It All Comes Together
MIRA isn’t just a mobile unit—it’s a movement for equity. By combining health, legal, and financial services in one trusted, bilingual space, the MIRA Health Fair reflects a shared mission: to remove barriers, restore dignity, and build a healthier Eagle County for all.
Join us in celebrating this powerful collaboration and thank you to the donors, volunteers, and partners who make it possible.
