Breaking Barriers to Breast Health: Connecting Our Community to Free Mammograms
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about the importance of early detection and help more people access the screenings and care they need. At Eagle Valley Community Foundation (EVCF), we’re proud to partner with Vail Valley Charitable Fund, the Vail Breast Cancer Awareness Group, and Vail Health to help community members access free mammograms.
For many people in Eagle County, accessing preventive health care isn’t always straightforward. The cost of a screening, lack of insurance, language barriers, or limited information about available resources can make it difficult to know how and where to get care. Even when someone knows a screening is important, navigating the health care system to get one can feel overwhelming.
That’s where MIRA and our community partners come in.
Making Preventive Care More Accessible
Through MIRA, EVCF’s mobile health and resource program, we work to reduce barriers to health care and connect community members with the services and support they need. By collaborating with trusted local partners, we can help individuals navigate available resources and access preventive care that might otherwise feel out of reach.
Our partnership to connect community members with free mammograms reflects this commitment. By working together, we’re helping make breast cancer screening more accessible and ensuring that cost, insurance status, or language don’t have to stand in the way of taking care of one’s health. Early detection can play an important role in breast cancer outcomes, and regular screening can help identify breast cancer before symptoms develop. Making these services easier to access is an important step toward a healthier community.
Stronger Together
This work is possible because of the organizations across Eagle County that recognize the importance of accessible, equitable health care. We’re grateful to Vail Valley Charitable Fund, the Vail Breast Cancer Awareness Group, and Vail Health for their partnership and shared commitment to community wellness. Together, we’re doing more than connecting people with screenings. We’re helping build a community where people feel supported in prioritizing their health, asking questions, and accessing care without unnecessary barriers.
