Introducing Tu Salud: A New Chapter in Wellness With MIRA

At MIRA, we know that nutrition is one of the most powerful tools families have to prevent and manage chronic conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease. This fall, we launched a new hands-on nutrition program designed to meet people exactly where they are—literally.

Through a partnership with The Community Market, MIRA is now offering Shop With a Nutritionist, a real-time learning experience that takes place while customers wait in line for groceries. Instead of classroom lectures, participants receive practical, personalized guidance in the moment when they are making decisions about the food they will bring home.

A First Class Focused on Everyday Skills

Our first session centered on one essential skill: how to read and understand food labels. Participants learned how to identify added sugars, compare portion sizes, recognize misleading marketing, and make small swaps that can support long-term health. The goal is simple: to build confidence and empower families to make informed choices, regardless of budget or dietary restrictions.

Food Is Medicine: A Powerful Partnership in Prevention

This work is strengthened by our ongoing collaboration with Food Bank of the Rockies through their Food Is Medicine initiative. Together, we are connecting health screenings with nutrition guidance, ensuring that when someone receives a high blood pressure or prediabetes reading, they also receive supportive education and actionable next steps.

As part of this partnership, Food Bank of the Rockies provides home-delivered, medically tailored meals for neighbors facing chronic health conditions or barriers to mobility. MIRA helps identify participants, coordinate referrals, and ensure families feel supported throughout the process. This expanded layer of care allows us to address both immediate needs and long-term health outcomes.

Why Nutrition Matters in Our Work

MIRA’s mission has always centered on being a trusted hub for health education, screenings, wellness activities, and community connection. Nutrition weaves through every aspect of that mission. By offering consistent, culturally relevant, bilingual nutrition support, we are not only increasing access to information—we are helping families build healthier habits that can transform health over time.

This new program marks the beginning of a more integrated approach to community wellness, one where food access, health screenings, education, and trusted relationships work together to support the whole family.

More Shop With a Nutritionist sessions and community-based classes will be announced soon. We look forward to growing this work alongside our partners and neighbors.
