Introducing the Community Compost Program at The Community Market!

At The Community Market, we’re always looking for ways to reduce waste, promote sustainability, and nourish our community. That’s why we’re thrilled to introduce our new Community Compost Program—a hands-on opportunity for volunteers to help us turn food waste into nutrient-rich compost that supports local gardens and reduces landfill waste.

How It Works

Our composting program is open to volunteers who commit at least six hours per month to help manage food scraps, maintain compost bins, and support waste diversion efforts at The Community Market. Volunteers will learn about composting best practices and play a direct role in making our food system more sustainable.

Why Composting Matters

Composting is one of the simplest yet most impactful ways to reduce food waste and fight climate change. In the U.S., nearly 40% of all food goes to waste, much of it ending up in landfills where it generates methane—a greenhouse gas 25 times more potent than carbon dioxide in trapping heat. By composting, we can:
